There is a growing emphasis on the global community to take intense and immediate action towards the preservation of the environment. However, we find through this movement, that there is quite a lot of change taking place. The United Nations, which consists of 195 countries, has explicitly acknowledged and addressed climate change. The environment is at the forefront of international concern. Furthermore, countless groups and organizations are coming together to inform the community on contemporary issues and make measurable changes to the environment. The changes that are required are dramatic and will take course over long periods, but the efforts so far have been admirable. Corporations account for a significant portion of the emissions crisis. The solutions present to reduce their emissions are costly and often difficult for a business to quickly implement. Society will need to be patient throughout this global process, as it is an issue of tremendous magnitude.
Bangladesh is current with these issues. The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change was founded in 1989 and addresses environmental concerns and their role in the development of the country. There currently are rallies taking place within Bangladesh that aim to spread knowledge on global climatology. Despite moving in the right direction, Bangladesh has its plate full environmentally. The heavily populated and impoverished country has become malnourished and has significant underground contamination. Citizens of Bangladesh feel that the government has failed to properly inform its people on environmental issues. Bangladeshis will need to be educated in an attempt to save their environment.
There is no shortage of environmental groups in Bangladesh. Bangladesh Environment and Development Society epitomizes the positive influence occurring within the country, with sustainability, clean energy, and natural resources among their highest concern. This organization acknowledges that they are in a high-risk area that needs to adapt as quickly as any other community. The vulnerability of Bangladeshis is among the highest in the world. Bangladesh Environment and Development Society currently implements large scale community projects. A recent biodiversity project offered filtered water to a scarcely located village. This quote from a thirty-five-year-old woman named Maloti Biswasa offers a little insight into these impactful projects. “There was a scarcity of drinking water in our village. I used to walk with a water can about 7 kms daily to fetch drinking water. Now, the new project is providing filtered drinking water in my village. I am so happy.” Bangladesh Environment and Development Society and organizations alike continue to provide environmental hope for their nation.
